Pipeline Project Proposal- Moondance

I’m introducing my pipeline project proposal. 5 weeks, that’s how much time will be devoted to this project. Those 5 weeks are going to happen no matter what. I’d like to spend those 5 weeks making something that matters. Something of importance.

That is why I propose a short film.  My inspiration came from when I was listening to “Moondance” by Van Morrison and I loved the idea of a couple dancing in the moonlight. The song has a morose feeling of lost love to it, which led me to the tragic love story, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

I’m hoping to play up on everyone’s strengths, talents, and interests. I personally am interested in production design. There will be a little something for everyone, some animation, stop motion, fantastic costumes and makeup, set designs, story, really anything. This film is going to be big and fantastic. It will be a huge conglomeration of artistic minds.

The story:

A happy couple are soon torn apart by the girl’s untimely death. The guy is left feeling depressed and he feels life just cannot go on without her. He goes to his local bar and drinks his feelings his thoughts go to a darker place so he decides to end his life by overdosing on medications. He goes into a dreamlike stupor and this begins the fantastical part of the story. He enters a new world, it could be heaven or not, everything is fantastic and magical. The girl is with him once again and they’re dressed in elaborate costumes and almost looking otherworldly, think Midsummer’s Night Dream here. They have a blast for one last time; the dream should be euphoric feeling. Suddenly he is drawn away from this dream world and back into reality. This scene could have a sweet transition from the girl to a new girl at a hospital or an ambulance. He is awoken to a chaotic scene vibrant with life now he has to face the bitter reality of living without her and finding happiness again.

The dream state is where things can pretty experimental and fun.

Here is the song, "Moondance" sung by Michael Buble.

Here is an example of a costumer designer I admire Sarah Fuller

Another is Colleen Atwood, who has designed costumes for a multitude of major motion pictures such as Alice in Wonderland, Dark Shadows, and Edward Scissorhands.

As far as makeup goes, I created a pinboard on Pinterest for inspirational makeup ideas. I have a screen shot of it here:

I've created an organizational chart here:

Here is my timeline:

I would like to be the Art Director for this piece. I'm also asking Karl Allsop to be the Director. I don't know who else would be fit for the other roles in the project so I won't try to pick them out.

Have a great  day,
 Lex

  1. Alexis - I am really loving all of the examples of costuming and make-up that you have shown here. I also feel like your project lends itself to some set design as well, which I know both you and I are interested in. I like the concept and really feel like with a large group we could run with it!

  7. I believe this project would be fun to do, I like the example you gave with the costumes and make up. I'm not very familiar with costumes but it's something I would like to try. I like your story plot, I feel it could use a bit of a change in some areas but otherwise it's great.
